Toward rubella elimination in Poland: need for supplemental immunization activities, enhanced surveillance, and further integration with measles elimination efforts

An article published in a special supplement of the prestigious Journal of Infectious Diseases which was commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation. The aim of this monumental work was to document various aspects of measles and rubella elimination programmes in a global perspective and for each WHO region. Laura Zimmerman came as part of a WHO mission to evaluate rubella surveillance. We documented that the disease moved to young adult males and we can expect an outbreak in this group. Sadly the outbreak occurred as predicted 3 years later :(
